Duckworth-Lewis

Team batting first- Team A
Team batting second- Team B

This is something many of you know and many of you don't. Almost all cricket fans are aware of the Duckworth-Lewis term but almost all are not aware of the way it is calculated.

It is a method adopted by the ICC officials to fairly calculate the runs to be scored by the Team-B if the overs of the team batting second are reduced due to any interruptions.
In case, the match is abandoned after the team batting second has played some overs, then this method is used to calculate the amount of runs that should have been scored by Team-B, and then the winner is declared accordingly.
This method was devised by two English statisticians, Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis. Resources are the essence of this theory. This method is calculated on the basis of amount of resources available for Team-B after the match is interrupted. The resources are calculated and accordingly judgement is given.

Percentage total resources remaining reference table (D/L Standard Edition)
Overs remainingWickets in hand
108642
50100.085.162.734.911.9
4089.377.859.534.611.9
3075.167.354.133.611.9
2056.652.444.630.811.9
1032.130.828.322.811.4
517.216.816.114.39.4
This is the table where resources available are already calculated in percentage.

Situation 1- Team-A completed their innings and Team-B's innings is reduced by some overs.

Example-

Team-A scored 231 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 50 overs.
Match is interrupted and team-b has only 30 overs to play with 10 wickets in hand.

Now, According to the standard edition of D/L method,
S x R2 / R1

Where,
R2= Resources available to Team-B
R1= Resources available to Team-A
S= Runs scored by Team-A

Calculation:
231 x 75.1 / 100 = 173.481
That means, Team-B has to score 174 runs to win in 28 overs.

Situation 2.Team-A has completed their innings and Team-B has played a part of their innings when the match was abandoned.

Example
Team-A has scored 270 in 50 overs. Team-B scored 240 with the loss of 6 wickets in 45 overs when the play was abandoned.

Calculation:
#Amount of resources lost by Team-B= 14.3 % (Table)
#So, Total resources left for Team-B = 100-14.3= 85.7%

Therefore, according to the formula,
S x R2 / R1:

270 x 85.7 / 100= 231.39

So, Team-B had to score 232 at the end of 45 overs to win the match, having scored 240, wins the match.

Situation 3- Team-A has completed their innings. Team-B has played a part of the innings when the match was interrupted. The match is started with reduced overs for the Team-B.

Example:
Team-A has scored 270 runs after 50 overs. Team-A scored 70 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs when the play was stopped. The play was resumed and the overs were reduced to 40 overs for Team-B.

Calculation:
#Amount of resources available to Team-B after interruption= 30 overs and 8 wickets . That equals to 67.3% (Table)
#Resources available to Team-B after reduction in overs= (40overs-20overs) 20 overs and 8 wickets= 52.4% (Table)
#Resources lost= 67.3% - 52.4% = 14.9%
#Total resources available to Team-B= 100% - 14.9% = 85.1%

Therefore,
270 x 85.1 / 100 = 229.77
Team-B has to score 230 runs to win the contest in 40 overs.

This method was first used in a match between Zimbabwe and England in which, Zimbabwe won by 7 runs.
This method has faced many criticisms based on its accuracy and based on its calculation but it is still believed to be a fair method which provides statistically fair calculations.
ICC uses the professional edition of this method, in which, the formula is the same but the resource percentage is different which the ICC has not disclosed publicly.

First, sorry to confuse you guys with the title. It is in French because I am a beginner in French and I like learning more and more. So, I keep using French words in my Blog.
The meaning of the title is- "The meaning of My Name".

I actually don't know the meaning of my name. I never cared about finding the meaning of my name until there came a topic in "Indispire".

When people asked me about the meaning of my name, I would just say, "Shabdo mein kya rakha hai, Bhavnao ko Samjho", just because I didn't knew the meaning.

Well, as I have "Googled" my name, it shows that it is of a "Sanskrit Origin" and it means, "Handsome". Google also shows that my name is very rare and Unique. My name is not even translated in most of the languages. That's something to be proud of. :D

MH370

For people who are least interested in things other than their computer games,
For people who don't get time to know what is happening around because they are so damn busy with girlfriends,
For girls who are so busy applying makeup that there is very less time for anything else,
For students who were so busy studying for their board exams that they didn't have time to have a look at what is going on around,

MH370 is a Boeing 777-200ER, owned by Malaysian Airlines. This plane was enroute from kuala Lumpur to Beijing when it went missing. It lost all contacts less than a  hour after takeoff from Malaysia. It was carrying 239 people in total which included 227 passengers, out of which 152 were Chinese, and 12 crew members.

As it went missing, world's biggest search operation started in the Gulf Of Thailand and South China Sea.
The last words by the Co-Pilot were,
"All right, Good Night"
Even after few days of unsuccessful search by Malaysia and China, neighbouring countries or countries where the flight could probably go,  were asked for help to find the plane.

A total of 25 countries consisted of this search operation, actually Unsuccessful search operation. The countries included, India, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, France, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United States and Vietnam.

Later, rumors spread that the plane may be hijacked by Taliban. The news of 2 people onboard travelling with fake passports added to the rumors and the news went viral. Knowing which, The Talibanis sent a video informing that they did not hijack the plane and also said that they would have been pleased if they had done that.

After so many days of unsuccessful search, Malaysian Pm finally announced:

"It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, Flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean."

He made this announcement after Australian Navy were close to finding debris in the Southern Indian Ocean. The objects, described as a "Grey or Green circular object" and a "Orange rectangular object" were found floating in the sea with many small objects spread over several kilometers.

"Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived," Malaysia Airlines said in a text message to relatives of passengers and crew."

Millions of tweets and photos were uploaded expressing their grief and condolences  towards the families of the passengers and crew members.

My Dream Library

What would your dream library look like.
#DreamLibrary

Its not so long that I have started reading novels. I don't know much about them. I only started reading books when my good friend asked me to.

Library is always a boring place for most of us. Most of us doesn't like visiting the library for any reason. And in the age of internet so widely spread, libraries are rarely visited. But there are some people who like visiting libraries. Maybe, they get peace of mind there because of very less noise or maybe because they don't have a internet connection at home or maybe they prefer library than internet. Some may even visit library because they are addicted to books (Very less actually are).

I have never dreamt of a library, but to write this blog, I tried thinking about books and library sections and many more things while sleeping, but it didn't work. Only pictures of Sachin Tendulkar surrounding me were visible.
I would not keep books of literature or history or something because they must be the sections the least visited. They must be good books obviously but as its my dream library, I would not prefer such books. They are types of books which only people who are deeply interested can read. If I ask my friends to read a literature book, i would get back 5 punches on my face, 10 kicks on my back and abusing words.

The library would have different floors for different sections.
The First floor would be full of books me and my friends like. "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari", "Five point someone", "Angels and Demons", "The Da Vinci Code", "Digital Fortress", "The Harry Potter" series, "The Lord Of The Rings",  "The Hobbit", "127 Hours" are some of them.

The second floor would be full of  novels relating to technology and Fiction like, "Digital Fortress", "Cryptonomicon", "Deception Point", "Devils' plaything", "Trojan Horse", "Jurassic park", "The first $20 million is always the hardest" and many more.
 and many more.
The third floor being full of novels relating to love. Books like, Two states, I too had a love story, P.S. I love you, Twilight, gone with the wind, Revolution 2020, It's all about love, Can love happen twice, But I love you, Anything for you Ma'am, "If it's not forever. Its not love.",
"A walk to remember",
"The notebook" and a lot more.(Comment and let me know if I had missed any).

The Fourth floor being full of encyclopedias and books of facts and childrens comics. I loved reading them when I was a kid.

The fifth floor would be of books related to spirituality and religions. It would be on the fifth floor because the higher you are, the closer you are to the God :D . The Holy books, Agamas (The holy books of Jainism), The Bible, Quran, Bhagavad Gita, Guru Granth Sahib.

The sixth floor.....!
Oops! I haven't dreamt of the Sixth floor yet. :D

The Lone Survivor

How would you survive if you are the last person in the world.
#Survivor

Its a tough task to be lone. Rather tough when you are alone in the whole world. Can't even imagine a day like that.
Just imagine,
You wake up and ask for the early morning tea, one of the best thing your mother would ever prepare, and there is no response.
Then you call your friend and no answer on the phone.
You go to college and  Voila, you don't see any human trace. You are alone in a 100 acre campus. One would start shivering with fear.
The worst thing would be, if there is no person in the world, whom would I ask if I need troops in Clash Of Clans :D

The question of survival comes.
I would create such a technology that I would be able to talk to Aliens.(In a hope that, Aliens do exist).
Ask them to visit Earth :D
We would go to every part of the world (which can be called , World Trip :D). I would ask them to take me to their planet.
I would also pet a dog and take him with me. There, I would Learn about how they live. The place they live. It can be like a jungle or a plain as on earth. The way their houses are built. The shape of their houses. The surroundings and everything about it.
I would learn about their food habits. The amount of calories they intake (Lol). Is their food like as on earth. Do they really eat or survive on Sunlight. ( As in the movie, "Koi Mil Gaya")
I would learn abut their daily routine. Do they have schools. Do they posses education. Are they educated. If yes, then i would surely ask them to solve Math problems to test their intelligence :D .
About their relationship, their technology, their education, their life style and everything.
I would stay there with aliens for few years. I would learn their livelihood. I would have friends to play.
I would learn about the technological advancement in their planet.
I would teach them hoe to play cricket ( My Fav Sport) and have matches with me as captain.
I would teach them how to make "Khakra", the best thing to eat in the world. ( I would learn it from my mom, before this could happen :D )
Then, I would ask them to try living on earth and teach them about survival on earth. Slowly, many species of aliens would come to stay on Earth.
Just imagine. Living with Aliens on a lonely planet would be fun. They would b ring their technologies to earth. And the earth would develop with no one to be benefited with the development except me.
Thus, I would be alone never again. :D

School Life

If you ask anyone, who has completed their schooling, about how was their school life, every time you will get the same answer,
Awesome.
School life is the Golden Part of one's life.
Only a person who has completed their schooling can tell the worth of school life. A person who is studying in school will not know the worth of it but will come to know only when they are the end of school life. The enjoyment, the fun one gets at school can never be matched.
We cry when we first start going to school. We cry when we are about to complete school. We cry at both times but the difference is at the first place we cry because we do not wanted to attend school and at the second place because we do not wanted to leave school.
