Flight crashes have changed from 'Being Rare' to 'Being Occasional'. I would not say Air Crashes are common but they are on a rise as compared to the past. Advancement in technology is to prevent such crashes, but somewhere there is need to change. Air crash not only results in loss of flights but most importantly loss of valuable lives of people. Loss of lives have adverse affects on their families. Some may be the only breadwinners for their families, some may be the only sons or daughters of the family, many would be the only hope of their families and so on. Losing someone in such a accident is heartbreaking.
Germanwings Airbus A320 is a, or rather was a flight owned by Germanwings, which is owned by Lufthansa. Lufthansa is the father company of Germanwings. Germanwings is a low cost flight airline.
The Germanwings Airbus A320 was scheduled to take off from Barcelona, Spain and was schedule to arrive at the Dusseldorf airport, Germany. But, it didn't go on according to the schedule. It did take off from Barcelona at the scheduled time, but something went wrong on the way. Maybe due to some misunderstandings, may be due to fate or may it be some other reason, the flight didn't go as expected. Everything was going well and the flight had reached a level of 38000 ft. But, few minutes later, the Aircraft started descending gradually. It descended for 8 minutes reaching a level of 6500 ft and then crashing with The Alps.The flight crashed seconds after losing connection with the radar. First thought of the crash would be due to unclear weather. But the French Weather Reports stated that the weather was clear.
The flight had 144 passengers and 6 crew on board. 144 passengers included 2 infants. Majority of the passengers were German and from Spain. The flight debris were found on 6500 ft altitude in the Alps. The investigators are finding it very difficult to locate and search for the debris as it is amidst the Alps. This crash is also the first fatal crash of a Lufthansa flight after 1993. In an public announcement, Lufthansa posted on its site, " We must confirm to our deepest regret that Germanwings flight 4U 9525 from Barcelona to Dusseldorf has suffered an accident over the French Alps. The flight was being operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft and was carrying 144 passengers and 6 crew members. Everyone at Lufthansa and Germanwings is deeply shocked and saddened by these events. Our thoughts and prayers with the families and friends of passengers and crew members. Germanwings also arranged a helpline for family members in Germany.
The search operation included around 500 officials and the use of helicopters to find the exact location of the crash and also to locate the debris. The only way for people to get to the crash spot was to drop down from helicopters.
The pilot of the flight was Patrick Sonderheimer and the Co-Pilot was Andreas Lubitz. The cockpit voice recorder was found in a damaged but usable condition. The data revealed from the voice recorder shocked everyone and increased the misery of the people. According to the cockpit voice recorder, the pilot of the plane went out of the cockpit and was not able to or rather was not allowed to enter the cockpit.
The investigators revealed that the crash was not an accident but a suicide -murder. The co-pilot locked the cockpit door after the pilot went out and over read the code to open the door. All the crew members are aware of the code to open the cockpit door. The CVR clearly states the gentle knock on the cockpit door which gradually went on to banging and trying to break down the door. It seems like the co-pilot wanted to crash the plane. The co-pilot voluntarily refused to open the door and pushed a button to trigger the plane to descend. The death came almost instantly and the passengers were unaware of the situation until the last moment.
After the knowledge of knowing about the happenings inside the cockpit, a detailed history about the co-pilot was revealed. He didn't have any criminal background nor did he have and connections with the terrorists. The reason of the act of the co-pilot is still unknown.
